How to Make Your College Application Stand Out

Create a beautiful page to stand out. Join for free.

Every year, high school seniors scramble to put their best foot forward with the hopes of getting accepted into the college of their choice.

While some approach college application season with the “Keep Calm and Carry On” mentality, others meet it with fear and panic. For today’s student, the competition is tougher than ever. Especially if you’re applying to a school like Harvard where they reject nearly 95% of applicants.

To hedge against being rejected, students are applying to multiple colleges in droves. While it once was the standard to apply to three or five colleges, many high school students are applying to at least 10 schools. Further, some families are hiring college planners and sending their kids to application boot camps, sometimes spending to the tune of $10,000.

At, we believe in the power of a college education and do all we can to support students. We believe that your profile could provide the perfect compliment to your college application to set yourself apart. Here are three reasons why you should include your profile in your college application.

1. Give colleges a 360 degree of you.

You’re more than your test scores. You’re more than an essay. You’re more than you extracurriculars. Let colleges see you as you want to be seen. UT Austin freshman, Ruby Westkaemper, used her in the appeal process. Ruby now attends the school of her dreams.

2. A picture is worth 1,000 words.

With loads of applications coming in to each college, yours will be the one to stand out when they can actually match a face to a name. Your photo can make it more personal, while still telling your story.

3. Share your Backstory.

The best part of Backstory is that there are no rules. Whether you worked at a summer camp, started a food drive for the homeless or won the robotics competition, your accomplishments are important. Share what you’re proud of and colleges will take note.

Standing out has never been easier. We got your back.
